Blow Your Wad, Here Comes Todd (Todd Snider Coming To Vancouver)
This was a pre-show anticipatory rave. If you want to read the actual review of this concert, click here:
Oh What A Night: Todd Snider Live (and John Rogers Fully Exposed)
Ok all you music fans, it doesn't get much more exciting than this, at least not for all those of us who enjoy a great live show, especially one in a relatively small intimate venue. Todd Snider, one of my all-time favorite artists, is coming to Vancouver two weeks from today for the only Canadian show on his current tour. So if you live in Vancouver you should definitely come on down and join us on Thursday, February 7th at Pat's Pub. And if you live elsewhere, well, fly, drive, bus or hitch your way here, but just get here somehow. You're not going to want to miss it.
Yes, we're talking about the same Todd Snider here who myself and six others, collectively known as The Magnificent Seven, saw down in Bellingham, Washington last March. You may remember it as the (in)famous night that my friend River let it all hang out. A night immortalized in "The Amazing Adventures of Todd Snider and The Magnificent Seven (or River On A Bender Without A Paddle)". If you've yet to read that I suggest you check it out right now. It was quite the night.
And if you've never even heard of Todd Snider, then I definitely recommend checking out my "Todd Snider Rave" and its equally passionate sequel "The All I Am Saying Is Give Todd A Chance Mini-Rave". If you're not already a convert, these two raves should hopefully stimulate your interest in one of the great singer/songwriter/performer/alright dudes of the past 15 years. And, man, is he ever good live - funny, riveting and completely entertaining.
For all you relatively new Todd fans, if you've already got his two most recent albums, "East Nashville Skyline" and "The Devil You Know", and you're now wondering what to pick up next, I'd recommend 2000's "Happy To Be Here". Another really great album!! I've got 6 of his CDs now and they're all excellent, but those three would be the best place to start, with "East Nashville Skyline" being the absolute best.
There are seven of us going to the show again this year, but it's a slightly altered magnificent septet this time, which, sadly, doesn't include last year's hero, River. However, it does include my buddy and soccer teammate, Johnny Rogers, who's been known to streak not only at high school assemblies and house parties, but also at weddings and other formal church gatherings and, therefore, is the most likely candidate to "pull a River" and make the whole night extra memorable, wonderful, special and complete.
So, I'll be there with this reconfigured Magnificent 7 and I hope to see some of you there as well. I'm hoping it's going to be another fantastic show. And, again, how often do you get to see someone this great in such a small setting while they're still in their prime?
This is a must-see show for all you real music fans out there. And the great thing is that tickets are only $20 ($24 after the service fee). Ok, so, yeah, Pat's Pub is down on East Hastings in a not particularly very nice part of town, but, hey, after driving all the way down to Bellingham to see Todd last year, a short trip down to the outer edges of skid row this time is nothing.
See you there! And you can get tickets here.
